Meet in Beijing Arts Festival (MIB) is a national arts festival co-organized by Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, State Administration of Radio and Television and People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, and co-presented by China Arts and Entertainment Group (CAEG) and Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture. It aims at promoting cultural exchanges by presenting Chinese culture while introducing international arts.
In 2000, the first Meet in Beijing Arts Festival, held to welcome the new millennium, was a great success. Since then, MIB has gradually become an annual major event that bridges Beijing with the rest of the world in the arts field, and has become a prominent comprehensive arts festival in China and one of the largest arts festivals in Asia in spring.
Each year’s festival take place from late April till the end of May, and offers a variety of activities: stage performances of all genres, music festivals, art exhibitions, professional symposiums, etc. Over 1,020 arts groups and 32,000 artists and actors from 120 countries and regions have participated in MIB in the past 17 years, attracting more than 4.2 million audiences. Prominent groups / artists include the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Royal Shakespeare Company, opera conductor Valery Gergiev, Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras, Filippina Lydia Arena, the famous musical Cats, and so on.
MIB is strongly supported by governments and major media. CCTV and Beijing TV Station broadcast festival events to millions of viewers throughout Beijing and China.
With China’s increasing economic and social development, Beijing is becoming a significant stage in the field of international politics, economy and culture, and MIB extends a warm welcome to the rest of the world in the name of art.
